2016 proved to be one of the most significant years for hip hop in recent memory. From the tremendous rise of Chance the Rapper, to the unexpected release of A Tribe Called Quest’s We Got it From Here…. Thank You 4 Your Service, 2016 certainly did not disappointed! Hopefully many expect the same thing from 2017 and the many albums will be released this year. With that, Hype Street, MA presents 5 of The Most Anticipated Rap Albums of 2017.
Travis Scott– AstroWorld
La Flame killed it last year with Bird’s in the Trap Sing McKnight and fans of his have been thinking about the future of this project ever since he sent out this tweet:
He is even planning on producing more too!:
Travis has definitely been on to something with Rodeo and Birds, so don’t look for him to stop with AstroWorld.
Pusha T– King Push
The President of G.O.O.D. Music put out a quality album (or EP) in King Push– Darkest Before Dawn two years back and from the looks of his past two singles– H.G.T.V. and Drug Dealers Anonymous, we are bound to find three things in this album– crazy production from Kanye and others, bars talking about moving the dope, and DRAKE SUBS! Pusha T still has it folks, don’t sleep!
Lupe Fiasco- DROGAS Light
This is it folks. Lupe Fiasco will be dropping his final album next month. The Chicago lyricist has had an amazing career with one of the most impressive discographies in recent memory (with the exception of Lasers, of course.) If DROGAS Light is anything like Tetsuo and Youth, DROGAS Light will be the farewell album that Lupe fans deserve.
Drake– More Life
Drake had a great year in 2016 and said that he will be dropping a new project called More Life in December of last year but it did not happen unfortunately. After the release of Fake Love and the spooky single Sneakin’ featuring 21 Savage, more than likely the 6 God will have another #1 album on his plate.
Big Sean: I Decided
Two years ago, Big Sean dropped his greatest and most acclaimed album to date– Dark Sky Paradise and it seems to me that with every project he drops, he gets better and better! With the four songs he recently dropped– No More Interviews, Moves, Bounce Back, and Living Single, we can definitely see the work he has put in. I for one am very hyped to hear this album and so should the rest of the hip hop community.
Think I am missing an album that should be receiving the attention it deserves, let me know in the comments down below. Benjy signing off.
