With 2016 behind us, many of us hope that 2017 can carry the same momentum that 2016 gave. Even though people like Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and Big Sean are all expected to drop their anticipated projects this year, we also hope to see more from hip hop artist that are looking for an opportunity to blow up this year. With that, Hype Street, MA presents: 5 Artists to Watch For in 2017.

Nav

The Toronto native who recently made a guest appearance on Travis Scott’s Bird’s in the Trap Sing McKnight seems to be as lowkey as one can be (no wonder there are rumors that he could possibly be headed to the Weeknd’s label– XO.) Not only is he a singer, but he is also a rapper and producer. His Soundcloud continues to gather tons of listens along with his Youtube channel (BeatsByNav).  We definitely look forward to hearing more from this up and coming artist.

Dave East

College basketball player turned rapper Dave East has been receiving a lot buzz the past year after he was announced to the 2016 XXL Freshman Class. He recently dropped a mixtape Kairi Channel— after his daughter and many people like DJ Premier, Wyclef Jean, and Nas have been hyping him up. Look for more of East this year.

Cousin Stizz

Boston’s own Cousin Stizz has been making major noise for the past couple of months and this has to be just the beginning for him. The Suffolk County and Monda artist has convinced many that Boston can make some pretty good music too. His verse on Chill Bill Remix was pretty darn good too. Not only Boston, but the rest of the rap community is expecting big things from him this year (XXL Freshman?)

Saba

With the help of his guest appearances on Chance The Rapper’s Acid Rap and Coloring Book, I think the hip hop community is due for a Saba explosion! He released his enlightening and critically under looked album Bucket List Project and after receiving minor buzz from it, Saba looks to be next great up and coming artist to hail from Chicago.

Jazz Cartier

This Toronto native might just turn out to be the biggest thing to come out of Canada since Mr. 6 God himself — Drake. This musician has been going at day by day to master his craft and the results have not disappointed. What amazes me is that he still has no record deals even with one of the more slept on releases in 2016 — Hotel Paranoia. If he can ride his wave from 2016 and let it grow a little bit more, watch out!

Think I missed or snubbed a particular artist, feel free to sound off in the comments below. Benjy signing off!
